Auction Price Guide of Authentic Stringed Instruments and Bows
by Donald M. Cohen
I am pleased to announce that I am the owner and
publisher of THE RED BOOK, Auction Price Guide of Authentic Stringed
Instruments and Bows.
For the last 40 years I have tracked and analyzed auction
data as a way to give my customers accurate appraisals and to personally keep
informed of market values. Now I have the opportunity to expand my work through
this inclusive and well-established publication. Under my stewardship, THE RED
BOOK continues in its tradition as a great analytical tool responsive to the
needs of the professional instrument dealer and, as always, a great reference
guide to our specialized market of violin family instruments.
BOOK is the only comprehensive public record of auction prices paid for
violin-family instruments and bows. The three editions feature worldwide sale
results from the major auction houses of Austria, England, France, Germany,
Italy, and the United States from 1985 to 2012 and contains over 30,000 auction
sales representing the works of more than 4,500 instrument makers. The sales
are listed alphabetically by maker, sub grouped by instruments, and arranged
chronologically by sales dates. Prices are given in U.S. dollars, British
pounds and the Euro. It has an easy-to-read format and a helpful “Trade
edition is printed in an 8.5” x 11” format, contains over 450 pages and over 40 thousand entries. They
are perfect bound for beauty and durability.
